Custom Walnut Cabinetry and Architectural Millwork – West 1st Ave Project
At River Valley Millworks, our approach to custom cabinetry relies on precise engineering, structural accuracy, and collaborative design. For this residential renovation on West 1st Ave in Point Grey, we fabricated and installed a comprehensive interior millwork package. This project required close technical alignment with the design-build team to integrate contemporary utility into a character structure. The architectural specifications required extensive use of walnut across the primary living and kitchen spaces, selected for its grain characteristics, machining performance, and dimensional stability.
Technical Specifications and Fabricated Features
Integrated Partition Bookshelf: We fabricated a floor-to-ceiling walnut partition wall that serves as both a structural room divider and functional shelving. Utilizing advanced CNC machining allowed us to maintain tolerances, ensuring a precise fit against the surrounding architectural framing.
Kitchen Cabinetry: Manufactured with clean, linear faces and custom-configured internal casework. The layout optimizes storage volume while maintaining uniform panel gaps across the entire installation.
Bespoke Bar Cabinetry: Positioned adjacent to the home's staircase, this unit features grain-matched walnut faces and integrated storage. All doors are equipped with hidden European-style hinges to ensure repeatable mechanical alignment and smooth operation over time.
Material and Hardware Integration: All cabinetry boxes and structural components were monitored for stable moisture content before installation to mitigate the risk of wood movement or warping due to environmental fluctuations.
